With reference to your telegram No.200 of the

9th of October, 1937, and paragraph 2 of your secret

despatch of the 12th of February, 1938, regarding figures

of the exports of munitions from this Colony, I have the

honour to forward for your information the accompanying

copy of a note by the Manager of the Railway explaining

what is meant by the weights given in these cases.

is clear that in the case of light bulky goods like

aeroplanes there may be considerable divergence between

the weights stated in the returns and the actual physical

weights.

At present no munitions are exported by road, but

if permission to export by this route is requested in

future and granted, I will consider whether it will be

practicable to furnish you at regular intervals with

returns shewing the estimated weight of the exports.
